Camper Policy
Welcome to the CGI Chayolei Family!
We are thrilled to have your son join us this summer, and we look forward to providing him with a memorable experience filled with Chassidishkeit, learning, fun, and activities. Our goal is to create a home away from home for your son where he can make new friends and create unforgettable memories.
To ensure that camp runs smoothly and safely, we have put together a list of policy guidelines for parents to review. This list clarifies our camp policies and makes it easy for parents to understand what is expected of their son while at camp.
Registration & Payment
The registration fee is $400, which upon acceptance, is included in the tuition. The rest of the tuition is due before the summer begins unless prior arranged with the camp administration. Payment can be submitted all at once or in monthly installments. If one is not accepted, the registration fee will be refunded.
Scholarships
For scholarship information, please visit our scholarships page, which lists several camp funds that provide scholarships.
Acceptances
As we get ready for an incredible summer and receive many applications, there is a significant amount of technical work to be taken care of. We assure you that we will do our best to respond to you as soon as we can. If, for any reason, we determine that an applicant is not an appropriate fit for our camp, we reserve the right to decline acceptance.
We retain the right to determine bunk assignments, and acceptance is not contingent on specific bunk requests. By applying, you and your son agree to follow the camp rules and guidelines if your application is accepted.
Cancelations
After you’ve been accepted to camp, if you decide not to attend, we will be unable to refund your registration fee. In the event of medical, emotional, or behavioral issues that arise during camp, we reserve the right to send a camper home. Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds, reductions, or credit if a camper arrives late or leaves early for any reason.
In addition, we cannot refund tuition fees for canceled applications within two months of the camp start date.
Forms
Once your son is accepted to camp, you will need to fill out a few forms in your portal. It is essential to ensure that each form is completed before camp begins. Please note that the camp office will not issue a bus pass or luggage tag until all forms are complete.
Bunk Requests
We understand that campers may have bunkmate requests, and we will try our best to honor them. However, we cannot guarantee that all requests will be accommodated. Our goal is to unite campers and create strong friendships. Therefore, if we feel that a request may disrupt the bunk structure, we reserve the right not to honor it.
Moreover, if a large group of boys arrive together, they may be divided into different bunks. If a parent has concerns about their son sharing a bunk with another camper, we are happy to discuss the situation and see what solutions can be offered. We will do our best to honor such requests, but we cannot guarantee it. We do not make any switches to bunks once camp has started unless we feel necessary.
In order to maintain a Chassidishe environment, campers must adhere to our media policy.
Any media that doesn’t align with our camp standard will be taken away and not returned.
Camp reserves the right to check a camper’s belongings if a prohibited item is suspected to be present.
Books
We encourage campers to bring books, as reading is a healthy and productive way to unwind. Books and magazines about Jewish subjects and content must be written and published by Frum authors.
Music
In camp, we take great care in selecting music that is both fun and aligned with our Chassidishe values. For this reason, campers who bring an MP3 player to camp must hand it to their counselor on the first day of camp for inspection. Only once the contents have been confirmed to follow our media policy will the MP3 player be returned.
If the contents of an MP3 player fall short of our standards, it will be safely stored and returned at the end of the summer. In addition, when singing songs together anywhere in camp, only Jewish tunes and lyrics are acceptable.
Tip: If you’re looking for some good tunes, we’ve got you covered! Check out our Spotify page for a fantastic collection of all our amazing camp songs!
Electronics
In camp, we believe campers should have ample time to enjoy outdoor activities and connect without the distractions of electronic devices. Our campers come to camp to develop lasting friendships and to grow in ways that are not always possible during the year. We aim to provide an environment where campers can experience their time to the fullest extent possible.
To help achieve this, we have a strict electronic policy. We do not allow any electronic devices, except basic digital cameras and MP3 players, that have been checked for their content. If any devices are found, they will be confiscated and not returned. In addition, we may need to evaluate whether the camper can continue attending camp.
If a camper needs to bring an electronic device to camp, they must hand it to their counselor, who will store it safely until the end of camp.
Please leave the following items at home: cell phones, iPods, iPads, Tablets, PSPs, gameboys, smartwatches, MP3 players, radios, Wi-Fi Hotspots, computers, or any device with internet access. Please note that camp is not responsible for any lost or confiscated electronics.
Other Prohibited Items
Please note that the following items are prohibited and are not allowed in the camp. If any of these items are found, they will be confiscated and not returned. In addition, we may need to evaluate whether the camper can continue attending camp.
The prohibited items include knives or pocket knives, slingshots, B.B. guns or other weapons, fireworks, firecrackers, or any other fire-related items, alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, vapes, lasers, or lighters. Please note that camp is not responsible for any prohibited items brought to camp that are lost or confiscated.
For the safety of all campers, we do not allow any food appliances such as mini-refrigerators, sandwich makers, toasters, hot water urns, or coffee machines. Any appliance or devices deemed unsafe by camp will be confiscated.
Camp Infirmary
Our camp EMT, who lives on-site for the entire summer, is there to care for your son’s medical needs and can administer over-the-counter and prescription medication and tend to emergencies. We will notify parents if symptoms persist and guide parents in deciding the next steps.
If a camper doesn’t feel good or is concerned about something, he can visit the infirmary during hours. Infirmary hours are after breakfast, during rest hour, and after supper. Our EMT will check him out and see what he needs to feel better. If a camper doesn’t feel good for more than 36 hours, the EMT or the camp administration will contact the parents to discuss the next steps.
If a parent would like to be in touch with the EMT, they can contact the camp office.
Hospital Visits
Should an emergency arise, there is a hospital approximately 40 minutes away. Depending on how serious the injury is, camp will consult with the parents and our local doctor and decide if the camper should be brought to the local urgent care, local hospital, or a hospital in New York. In either case, we will make sure to inform the parents and keep them updated throughout.
If a camper needs to be hospitalized for a prolonged stay, responsibility will be transferred to the parents.
Medications
If your son requires medication while in camp, please inform us in advance. This will allow us to ensure that he receives the medication he needs in a safe and timely manner. To do so, please fill out the relevant information in the medical form when registering your son for camp.
Throughout the summer, all medications will be stored in the infirmary and will only be distributed by the camp EMT or by your son’s counselor if the EMT approves. Your son is not allowed to keep any medication with him, and all medications brought to camp should be delivered to the infirmary at the beginning of the camp. All medications must be clearly labeled with your son’s name, his doctor’s name, the name of the medication, and the required dosage.
The EMT will not administer any drugs or medication unless a licensed doctor has prescribed it. If the EMT needs to contact you regarding your son’s medication, we assure you that all information will be kept private and confidential. If your son needs to take over-the-counter medication or painkillers frequently, please send them with him to be stored in the infirmary.
Medical Insurance
Camp requires that every camper must have medical insurance to come to camp. Check to ensure your son’s insurance has coverage in Pennsylvania or New York. If it doesn’t, please make sure to get a plan that will cover any expenses. Traveler insurance is easy and cheap to get.
Parents are required to reimburse camp for any medical expenses paid on behalf of a camper.
If a family does not have medical insurance, they must sign a release form accepting responsibility for any medical costs.
Allergies
If your son has any allergies, please inform us in advance. To do so, please fill out the relevant information in the medical form when registering your son for camp. Although we will do our best to accommodate campers with anaphylactic allergies, we cannot take responsibility.
Please note the following information regarding food allergies at camp:
- For campers who are lactose intolerant or have a dairy allergy, please provide almond, soy, or rice milk labeled with the camper’s name.
- For campers who have gluten or wheat allergies, please provide gluten-free options labeled with the camper’s name.
Camp makes every effort to ensure all food from the kitchen is nut-free and sesame-free. However, the canteen may sell products containing nuts or sesame.
Sun Safety
During the summer, the days can become hot and humid, and campers engage in various outdoor activities. Therefore, we recommend that parents speak with their son before camp about the importance of staying safe while under the sun. The best practices include drinking plenty of water, wearing sunscreen, wearing a hat, and seeking shade wherever possible.
Homesickness
Adjusting to being away from home is a significant aspect of the camp experience. Our staff are trained to assist your son in adapting to camp life. If you have any concerns regarding your son’s adjustment to camp, please do not hesitate to contact the camp office, and we will do our best to help your son adjust more comfortably.
Personal Safety
Our staff receive ongoing Chinuch and professional guidance before and throughout the summer, ensuring the highest standards for our staff and campers. In addition, our staff receive training in child abuse prevention to ensure every camper’s safety.
Meals
Breakfast, lunch, and supper in camp are more than just about eating. The dining room is the center of the camp spirit, where campers use the opportunity to socialize, listen to Chassidishe stories, and learn the daily Hayom Yom or Inyanei Geulah U’Moshiach. Our dedicated cook and kitchen staff work hard to prepare nutritious, fresh, and most importantly, delicious meals three times a day.
Canteen
The canteen is open daily for campers to purchase snacks and drinks and also operates as a reward system during the summer. You can add money to your son’s canteen account when signing up online or by sending cash with your son to camp and have him give it to his counselor, which will then be deposited into his canteen account. The suggested amount of money for canteen is $75 per session.
In addition to our water fountains with fresh, well water throughout the camp, we also offer water bottles for purchase. We will not be allowing supermarket boxes or cases of water bottles on the luggage truck or bus to camp.
Dress Code
In order to maintain a Chassidishe environment, campers must adhere to our dress code.
Solid-colored long pants are the only acceptable option for camp, while jeans and shorts are not permitted, even during sports activities.
Shirts, sweaters, sports jerseys and caps with non-Jewish characters, pictures, writing, expressions, or cartoons are also not allowed.
Please note that knitted yarmulkes are not permitted. Campers also have the option to purchase a camp Yarmulke if they choose.
On Shabbos, campers are expected to wear appropriate Shabbos clothing (Dark pants and a white button down shirt).
SGP & EGP campers are required to wear a white button-down shirt for all Davenings and learning classes, as well as a regular Lubavitch black hat and jacket for all Davenings.
- All clothing and personal items sent to camp must be labeled.
- Please do not send any valuable items or anything of sentimental value.
- Camp is not responsible for any items lost or damaged during camp.
Kashrus Standard
We understand that each camper may have unique Kashrus standards at home.
To ensure that all campers are accommodated, we kindly request that any food brought to camp for a Hanochas Tefillin or Bar Mitzvah adheres to our camp Kashrus standards.
Our camp kitchen only serves Cholov Yisroel for Milchigs and Lubavitch Shechita for Fleishigs, and all food products are approved by the Crown Heights Beis Din (CHK).
Any catered meals brought to camp must be under the Hashgocha of the Crown Heights Beis Din (CHK).
Additionally, we ask that you please consult with the camp office regarding allergies.
Property Damage
Campers are responsible for any damages caused to camp property.
Any form of raiding, including theft, destruction, or damage of property belonging to other campers or staff, will not be tolerated. Such behavior will be addressed and can result in dismissal from camp.
If camp property is deliberately damaged or vandalized in any way, we will hold the responsible camper’s parents liable for the repair cost, and the parents will be contacted. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards vandalism, raiding, or inappropriate handling of others’ property.
Additionally, certain areas in camp are exclusively accessible to staff and strictly off-limits for campers.
Updates
You can check the website for updated pictures and videos of your son having a blast in camp. Additionally, real-time pictures, videos, and updates can be found by following our WhatsApp status.
By enrolling your son in our camp, you permit us to use and post pictures or videos of him on our platforms.
Calling Home
Every bunk has calling time once a week, and campers are encouraged to call their parents.
Calling days differ depending on your son’s bunk schedule. Due to the many trips and changes in schedule, calling days may change occasionally. Generally, we do not have calling times during the first week of each session to help campers adjust more easily.
Packages
Camp is a place for boys to feel equal to their peers, with everyone living in the same bunkhouses and enjoying the same activities. Since we do not have trips to the store, they can enjoy and be happy with what they have in the present moment.
To promote this healthy environment, we do not accept packages in camp, including Amazon, Walmart, and Instacart deliveries, and packages that arrive at camp will not be given out.
In addition to our nutritious meals, camp has a fully stocked canteen which your son can order from every day.
Emails
You can email your son through our website using your son’s division and bunk number. The main office in camp distributes the emails once a day. Please limit your emails to one email a week per camper.
Visiting Day
Camp has designated visiting days, during which parents are encouraged to come and visit their children. Please see our visiting day page for visiting day information and policies.
Visitors
For safety reasons, any unauthorized visitors will be turned away on days not designated for visiting. Exceptions are made for special cases that have been approved by the camp beforehand, such as Hanochas Tefillin and Bar Mitzvahs or health-related situations.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Leaving Camp
Our general policy is that campers are not allowed to leave camp. However, if there is a valid reason for a camper to leave, please contact the camp office to make special arrangements. Please note that camp will not take responsibility for transportation.
If a camper misses their home and, as a result, wants to leave camp, the head staff will go through our procedures with the camper and his parents.
We reserve the right to send a camper home during camp if any medical, emotional, or behavioral issues arise. Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds, reductions, or credit if a camper leaves early for any reason.
Celebrations in Camp
Please visit our celebrations in camp page for ways to celebrate your son’s birthday, Hanochas Tefillin, or Bar Mitzvah during camp.
Personal Items
Each camper is provided with a designated row of cubbies to store their belongings, which is located either in their room or at the back of the bunkhouse.
In camp, we highlight “A Chossid Iz A Mesudar” and emphasize the importance of being responsible and organized.
Additionally, every bunk has a daily cleanup time, and a thorough cleaning is conducted every Erev Shabbos.
As you prepare your child for camp, kindly refrain from packing any baby wipes as they cause issues with the septic system.
Laundry
Camp hires a company to do laundry throughout the summer.
Your son will need enough changes to last for eight days, as the laundry is done once a week. Your son’s counselors will assist in sorting the laundry by colors and whites. The laundry will be picked up and returned to the bunkhouse freshly cleaned the next day.
Every item sent to camp should be properly labeled, as any unlabeled clothing cannot be sorted.
Name Labels
Please make sure to label all of your son’s clothing and personal items with his full name before sending him off to camp.
We suggest reviewing your son’s luggage with him and providing an itemized list of all clothing and personal belongings he will be bringing to camp. We encourage campers to be responsible for their belongings and to check our lost and found if they can’t find something.
Please refrain from sending any valuable items or anything of sentimental value. Camp is not responsible for any items lost or damaged during camp.
Lost & Found
Campers can visit the lost and found, located near the main office, to retrieve any misplaced items. In addition, we will showcase all lost items a few times throughout the summer to assist campers in identifying their belongings.
Camp will donate any unclaimed clothing left behind at the end of the summer.
Tips
Our staff put in special effort to ensure that each camper enjoys themselves to the fullest while in camp. To show your appreciation, we strongly encourage you to give a tip as a token of gratitude.
If a parent plans on coming for visiting day, it is best to give the tip directly while expressing appreciation to the staff members involved. In addition, the camp office will send out an email with your son’s staff payment information so you can send tips directly to them.
Tipping suggestions per session are for each Counselor $50, the Learning teacher $45, and the Waiter $40.
Spending Money
If you wish to provide your son with spending money to use on trips, you can send the money in a labeled envelope for him to give to his counselor, who will hold on to it.
Please note that camp is not responsible for any camper’s spending money.
